Air France Airlines
Air France, the national airline of France, is a subsidiary of the Air France-KLM Group and one of the founding members of the SkyTeam alliance. The airline was established through the merger of several French airlines, including Air Orient, Air Union, and Compagnie Générale Aéropostale, among others. For over 70 years, it served as France’s primary flag carrier before merging with KLM in 2003. During the Cold War, Air France was one of three major airlines operating in Germany under allied control.
SkyTeam Alliance
Founded in June 2000, the SkyTeam alliance includes 19 member airlines, collectively carrying over 630 million passengers annually to more than 1,150 destinations worldwide. With over 750 lounges across the globe, SkyTeam members offer travelers exclusive access to various benefits based on their frequent flyer status. The alliance features two frequent flyer program tiers: Elite and Elite Plus, linked to the membership levels of each airline.
Classes of Travel
Air France offers three main classes of travel:
- Business Class: Air France’s Business Class features seats designed to conform to the shape of the passenger’s body, offering optimal comfort and sleep quality. The seats include a flexible armrest and power outlets for work on the go.
- Premium Economy: This class provides wider seats with a unique enveloping shell design, offering passengers more privacy and comfort for a more peaceful journey.
- Economy Class: Economy class seats come with adjustable headrests, allowing passengers to switch between upright and reclining positions for added comfort.
Baggage Allowance
- Economy Class: Passengers are allowed 12 kg of hand luggage and 23 kg for checked baggage.
- Business Class: Passengers can carry up to 18 kg of hand luggage and 32 kg for each checked bag.
Please note that baggage allowances may vary depending on the specific class of service and flight route. Be sure to check the full baggage policy for more details.
Frequent Flyer Program
The Flying Blue program, a joint frequent flyer initiative of Air France and KLM, rewards passengers with miles based on travel distance, fare, and service class. Other airlines like Air Europa, Garuda Indonesia, and Kenya Airways are also part of Flying Blue. Joining the program is free, and members earn two types of miles:
- Award Miles: These can be redeemed for free tickets, class upgrades, extra baggage, and lounge access. They expire after 20 months without any qualifying flights.
- Level Miles: These are used to determine membership level within Flying Blue and are valid until December 31 of each year.
Flying Blue members have the option to donate their miles to charity via KLM’s AirCares program or use their miles for shopping in the Flying Blue Stone.
In-flight Services
Air France offers a range of in-flight dining options:
- A La Carte Menu: Available to Premium Economy and Economy class passengers, this allows passengers to select meals without any additional cost, and meals can be pre-booked before departure.
- La Première Dining: Business class passengers can indulge in gourmet dining as part of the La Première service, with a wide selection of French dishes and wines curated by sommeliers. Premium Economy travelers also enjoy a high-quality three-course meal featuring traditional French cuisine.

- International Flights: Passengers flying internationally can also check in online 30 hours prior to the scheduled departure time.
